Zilker Trail of Lights | Zilker Park | Dec 7 – 21:

One of Austin’s most anticipated events is back this year for an even longer run! Millions of holiday lights and displays line the trail, creating a fun experience for the whole family. Each night will feature performances from local dance companies, bands, and singers. Purchase special “ZIP” passes online to get in a full 45 minutes earlier than everyone else!


The annual choreographed Christmas Light Show has been around for several years now. Each year something is added to the show and the lights are configured differently and more extravagantly. The show has become an Austin tradition that some are saying

AUSTIN, Texas – November 20, 2014 – According to the October 2014 Multiple Listing Service (MLS) report released today by the Austin Board of REALTORS® (ABoR), Austin-area home sales soared 16 percent year-over year to 2,403 single-family home sales, the largest year-over-year increase in home sales to date this year and an all-time high for the month of October. Single-family home prices for the Austin area also set a record for the month of October.

Austin, Texas continues to be experiencing a robust Austin real estate market.  I recently attended a meeting with Madison Insleman with Metro Study which is a nationwide real estate consulting firm.  Just a few of the highlights from this meeting led to the same conclusion about our very active real estate market.

  • In Austin area, the population doubles every 20 years which equates to 11-12,000 households annually.  There are currently 1.82 million people in our 5 county statistical area.
  • The apartment market is very tight with 95% occupancy in both 2012 and 2013 with a 7% increase in rental rates over the last year with the average being $1.19 per square foot.  5878 units were delivered in 2013 and 11,000 units projected to be delivered

Well, it’s good to look at these things in a positive light: this is a change that will help Austin, Texas real estate over the time. However, it still stings to announce that over the weekend word came down to the iconic food trailers located on South Congress between Monroe and Milton Street from landowner SOCO Development Group that May 25th would be their final day at the lot. 5 p.m. on May 25th, to be exact.
