Austin is a very unique city all on it’s own. From the music and events to some pretty killer outdoor beauty.
Here are just a few of the uniquely Austin things to do…
Places
The Alamo Drafthouse
A movie theater that has a waitstaff that brings you food and beer? Sign me up!! The seating is arranged with rows of cabaret style tables in front of each row of seats, with an aisle between each row to accommodate waiter service. Customers write their orders on slips of paper, which are picked up by black-clad waiters moving quietly between the rows.
Austin City Limits at Moody Theater
The all new Moody Theater located at the W Austin Hotel is now hosting the infamous Austin City Limits. YES! You can now buy Austin City Limits tickets!! Come and experience the magic you’ve seen on TV in person. Even if you don’t catch an ACL taping, you will want to see a show at the Moody Theater. Great sound and not a bad seat in the house!!
Ski Shores Cafe
Austin laid-back since 1954. This is an absolute must for burger lovers. Whether you come by land or boat there’s always a relaxing atmosphere on the banks of Ski Shores Cafe. Kick back with a cold one, eat some good grub and enjoy some great music. Check their website for event schedule.
Hula Hut
A favorite of Austinites since 1993, Hula Hut offers patrons Mexican and Polynesian fusion cuisine on the banks of Lake Austin. This is a great spot to sip some cold beverages and enjoy good food with friends on the big outdoor deck that extends out over the water. Fish Bowl races anyone?
Enjoy the view at the Oasis
The OASIS restaurant has a reputation as the largest outdoor restaurant in the state of Texas and, most likely, in the country. Nestled above Lake Travis this is THE spot to come sip a cold one or have dinner and catch the most beautiful sunset in the lower 48… You may need to bring a net to catch your breath!!
Tour the Texas Capitol
The Texas Capitol is an extraordinary example of late 19th century public architecture and is widely recognized as one of the nation’s most distinguished state capitols. An extraordinary edifice by any measure, the 1888 Texas Capitol is the largest in gross square footage of all state capitols and is second in total size only to the National Capitol in Washington, D.C.
Free Tour & Beer Tasting at Live Oak Brewing Company
Live Oak Brewing Company’s old-world style brewing is rarely found in America today but is practiced extensively throughout Germany and the Czech Republic. With many accolades under their belt and conveniently located in East Austin; you’ve got to try out the tour! They conduct brewery tours most Saturdays at noon. Tours are free, last about an hour and a half, and don’t forget to bring a picture ID in order to taste the beer.
